Colorado Medicare Plans

Medicare Supplements (Medigap) and Medicare Advantage plans are designed to cover the costs not paid by Colorado Medicare plans.

Colorado Medicare Plans open enrollment

Medicare beneficiaries in Colorado, like those elsewhere, become eligibDividerle for Medicare at age 65. The initial enrollment period starts three months before your birth month and continues for three months after. You can also apply for Medicare Supplements during this time.

While you can enroll in a Supplement at any time, the initial enrollment period is the ideal time to do so, as you cannot be denied coverage based on your health.

Medigap Plans

Medicare Supplements in Colorado help cover some or all of the deductibles and coinsurance that Original Medicare doesn't pay.

There are 10 standardized plans, labeled A through N. This means that all plans with the same letter provide the same coverage, and the only difference is the price. Be sure to compare your options, or let us help you save both time and money by handling the shopping for you!

Starting in 2020, new Medicare enrollees in Colorado will no longer be able to choose Medigap Plans F or C. However, beneficiaries who already have these plans can keep them.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Another option for Colorado Medicare beneficiaries to consider is Medicare Advantage plans. Also referred to as Part C, Medicare Advantage is a private plan that covers all the benefits of Original Medicare while offering additional perks such as dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.

Medicare Part C plans are available in 63 of the 64 counties in Colorado, with the number of plans available ranging from five to 29, depending on the county.

Medicare Part D

Original Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans do not provide prescription drug coverage, but you can enroll in Medicare Part D for this benefit. In Colorado, there were 26 Part D plans available in 2019. To avoid paying out-of-pocket for prescriptions, consider a standalone Part D plan or a Medicare Advantage plan that includes drug coverage.
