Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement plans, or Medigap, help cover out-of-pocket costs from Original Medicare (Parts A & B), such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles for hospital stays, doctor visits, and skilled nursing care. Some Medigap plans also provide emergency coverage while traveling abroad.

As of 2025, there are 12 different Medigap plans, each offering different levels of coverage. Comparing them side by side can help you choose the best fit for your needs.

However, Medigap does not cover long-term care, dental, vision, hearing aids, or prescription drugs (Part D covers medications).

The 12 Medigap Plans

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans are labeled A through N, each offering different coverage. No matter which plan you choose, all Medigap plans help pay for out-of-pocket costs like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance that Original Medicare doesn’t fully cover.

PLAN A

All insurance carriers that sell Medigap plans are required to offer Medigap Plan A. This plan provides the most basic coverage among Medigap options.

Why do I need Medicare Supplement insurance?

Medicare Supplement insurance (Medigap) is optional, but it helps many people manage out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare doesn’t fully cover. Since Medicare beneficiaries pay 20% of outpatient expenses, Medigap can ease financial stress.

Here’s why a Medigap plan may be useful:

● Helps Cover Costs – Pays for copays, coinsurance, and deductibles that Medicare leaves behind.

● Predictable Expenses – Provides consistent monthly costs , making it easier to budget for healthcare.

No Network Limits – See any doctor or specialist who accepts Medicare, with no referrals needed.

Check our Medicare Supplement Plan Comparison page for additional information.

Medigap benefits

Medigap policies are popular among Medicare beneficiaries because they can include benefits that help pay health care costs Original Medicare doesn’t, like:

● Copayments

● Coinsurance

● Deductibles

● Medical care when you travel outside the U.S.

Other advantages can include:

● Choice of own doctors and hospitals

● No referrals to see a specialist

● Some plans have zero out-of-pocket expenses

● Once you have a policy, you can’t be removed for health problems

Do Medicare Supplement (Medigap) Plans Offer Guaranteed Coverage?

Yes, but only in certain situations. If you lose employer health coverage, you may qualify for a 63-day guaranteed issue period to enroll in a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan without denials or higher costs due to health conditions.

During this period, you can choose from specific plans (A, B, C, F, K, or L). Some states offer additional guaranteed issue rights.

What happens if I miss Medigap open enrollment?

If you miss your Medicare Supplement (Medigap) open enrollment period, you might not be able to get a plan later unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP).

You may qualify for an SEP if you:

● Lose other health coverage (like employer insurance)

● Move to a new area where your plan isn’t available

● Have other special life events

If you don’t qualify for an SEP, you might have to go through medical underwriting or wait for another enrollment period.

To provide a quote, we'll need some details from you, as premiums are based on your information and health history, but our services are completely free!
