Georgia Medicare Plans

If you visit the hospital or doctor’s office often, Georgia Medicare plans may be better supported with a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage plan provided by private insurance companies.

Georgia Medicare plans open enrollment

Medicare beneficiaries in Georgia become eligible at age 65. The initial enrollment period starts three months before your birth month and lasts for three months after. During this time, you can also apply for Medicare Supplements.

While you can enroll in a Supplement at any time, the initial enrollment period is the best time to do so, as you cannot be denied coverage based on your health.

Medigap Plans

Medicare Supplements in Georgia help cover some or all of the deductibles and coinsurance left by Original Medicare.

This can save you thousands of dollars, as Medicare only covers about 80% of your outpatient expenses, and it doesn’t have any out-of-pocket limits. A Supplement plan would cap your out-of-pocket expenses, providing extra financial protection.

Another important benefit is the freedom to see any doctor who accepts Medicare, without being limited by networks.

There are 10 standardized plans, labeled A through N, which offer the same coverage. The only difference between these plans is the price, so it’s important to shop around for the best deal. Alternatively, you can use our service to save time and money—we’ll do all the shopping for you!

After 2019, new Medicare enrollees in Georgia will no longer be able to choose Medigap Plans C or F. However, those already enrolled in these plans can keep them.

Since these plans are standardized by the federal government, the only variation will be in cost. Make sure to have someone compare policies for you to ensure you’re getting the best price.

Medicare Advantage plans

Georgia offers up to 48 Medicare Advantage plans, depending on your county of residence. Also referred to as Medicare Part C, Medicare Advantage is a private plan that provides all the benefits of Original Medicare, along with additional perks such as dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.

Medicare Part D

Original Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans do not include prescription drug coverage, but you can enroll in Medicare Part D for this benefit. In Georgia, there were 26 Part D plans available in 2019. If you want to avoid out-of-pocket costs for prescriptions, consider enrolling in a Medicare Advantage plan or a standalone Part D plan.
