Indiana Medicare Plans

Indiana Medicare plans become available to residents when they turn 65 or qualify for Social Security benefits. However, beneficiaries are still responsible for costs like deductibles and coinsurance. Medicare Supplement and Advantage plans can help cover these expenses.

Indiana Medicare Plans

Medicare beneficiaries in Iowa become eligible for Medicare at age 65. Initial enrollment starts three months before your birth month and lasts three months after. During this period, you can also apply for Medicare Supplements.

While you can enroll in a supplement at any time, initial enrollment is the ideal time, as you cannot be denied coverage due to health issues.

Medigap Plans

Medicare Supplements in Illinois help cover some or all of the deductibles and coinsurance left by Original Medicare.

This can save you thousands, as Medicare only covers about 80% of outpatient expenses. Original Medicare also doesn’t have limits on out-of-pocket costs, but a supplement can cap your expenses.

Another benefit is that you’re not limited to specific networks—you can see any doctor who accepts Medicare.

There are 10 standardized plans (A through N), meaning all plans with the same letter offer the same coverage, with the only difference being the price. Be sure to compare prices, or let us help by doing all the shopping for you to save both time and money!

Starting in 2020, new enrollees won’t be able to choose Medigap Plans C or F in Illinois, but current beneficiaries can keep their plans.

Since these plans are standardized by the federal government, the only difference will be the price. Make sure someone is shopping around for you to ensure you’re getting the best deal.

Medicare Advantage plans

Indiana offers up to 29 Medicare Advantage plans, depending on the county you reside in. Also referred to as Medicare Part C plans, Medicare Advantage is a private plan that covers all the benefits of Original Medicare, along with additional perks like dental, prescription drug, and vision coverage.

Medicare Part D

Original Medicare and Medicare Supplement plans do not cover prescription drugs, but you can enroll in Medicare Part D for this coverage. In 2019, there are 26 Part D plans available in Indiana. If you'd prefer not to pay out-of-pocket for your medications, consider enrolling in Medicare Advantage or a standalone Part D plan.
