Medigap Plan B

Original Medicare covers 80% of costs, leaving you to pay the rest. Medigap plans help cover these expenses.

Plan B includes everything in Plan A plus the Part A deductible. There are 10 Medigap plans (A to N), but insurers must offer Plan A and either Plan C or F. All plans have the same benefits, no matter the provider.

Individuals Who Benefit from Plan B

Medigap Plan B is a good option if you're in good health, don’t travel abroad, and want a lower monthly premium.

However, it only offers basic coverage. If you want more benefits, other plans may be better but could have higher costs. Choose a plan that fits your health, lifestyle, and budget.

Medigap Plan B Premiums

In 2025, Medigap Plan B premiums typically range from $110 to $210 per month. These premiums vary based on factors like your state of residence, the insurance provider, age, gender, and tobacco use. Generally, states with higher living costs may have higher premiums.

When To Enroll In Medigap Plan B

You can enroll in Medigap Plan B as soon as your Medicare Part B starts. You have a 6-month Open Enrollment Period where you can sign up without answering health questions. After this period, you can still apply, but you may need to answer health questions for approval.

Medigap Plan B and Prescription Drug Coverage

Plan B covers certain medications given during an inpatient stay if they are covered under Medicare Part B. For other prescriptions, you’ll need a separate Part D drug plan.

Medigap Plan B versus Medicare Part B

Medicare "parts" refer to Original Medicare benefits, while "plans" are Medicare supplements. Medicare Part B covers outpatient care like doctor visits and preventive services. Medigap Plan B helps cover costs that Medicare Parts A and B don’t pay.

How to Compare Rates for

MEDIGAP PLAN B

Although it may seem confusing, "plans" and "parts" have distinct meanings in Medicare. "Parts" refer to the benefits of Original Medicare, while "plans" refer to Medicare supplement options.

For example, Medicare Part B covers outpatient services like doctor visits and preventive care. On the other hand, Medigap Plan B is a supplemental policy that helps cover costs not paid by Medicare Parts A and B.
